Van het grote succes heeft de op nieuwjaarsdag in 1997 op 52-jarige leeftijd overleden Townes Van Zandt,  nooit echt kunnen genieten. Het zachte introspectieve countryfolk repertoire van de Texaanse singer-songwriter werd door zijn generatiegenoten in country- en folkkringen alom gerespecteerd en gekoesterd.
