We hoorden voor het eerst van Malford Milligan door zijn verleden bij de Texaanse bluesrockers Storyville maar wellicht beluisterden we de gespierde, soulvolle zang talloze keren onbewust. Als sessiezanger figureert Malford Milligan regelmatig op studiosessies, naast wekelijkse jams in Antone’s, de legendarische blueshonk in Austin. In die muzikantenstad ontmoet Milligan Jack Hustinx, Hustinx zette samen met Richard van Bergen de Nederlandse rootsband Shiner Twins op en in 2002 was hij als songwriter en muzikant/producer betrokken bij Milligans Sweet Cherry Soul.
