Joe Hicklin is een stadsdichter, de nachtburgemeester van Birmingham en vooral de intense gesproken woord rappende, croonende, schreeuwende zanger van het Big Special duo. Met hun choose life Trainspotting getinte voordracht zijn zij de nieuwste naam in een alsmaar groeiende postpunk lichting. De kwaadaardige zaadjes ontkiemen zich in de zijstraten van de achterbuurt van Birmingham, waar dit tweetal opgroeit en samen het snode plan smeedt om het verscheurde afgerafelde Groot Brittannië te veroveren. Toch komt het succesverhaal niet zomaar uit de lucht vallen. Joe Hicklin start in 2015 zijn muzikale loopbaan met de minimaal opgepakte singer-songwritersplaat The Flesh and Bone.
