You Said Strange is een kwartet uit Giverny, Normandië, dat inmiddels aan zijn tweede album toe is. Deze tweede langspeler bestaat uit twee delen waarvan we hier dus de eerste helft in handen hebben. Met acht tracks is Volume 1 een compacte release geworden. De Franse band legt samen met hun producer en hun sound engineer een mooi geluid neer dat je gemakshalve onder de noemer 'shoegaze met wave-echo's' zou kunnen scharen. Het is interessant te horen hoe de groep zonder stevige effecten toch een mooie, soms mysterieuze diepte weet te creëren. Het draait vooral om het subtiele samenspel van zang en snarenwerk.
