Met hun psychedelische mix van glamrock, elektro, pop en onnavolgbare gekte zet MGMT iedereen met Oracular Spectacular op een dwaalspoor. Is dit nou geniaal of een uit de hand gelopen drugsexperiment? In eerste instantie wordt vooral Time To Pretend breed opgepakt, maar groeien Kids en Electric Feel, mede door het gebruik in commercials tot klassiekers uit. Die verworven sterrenstatus verspelen ze een beetje op de ver boven de aarde zwevende regenboog surftrip van Congratulations. Een commerciële zelfmoord, welke de indierockers van alle contractuele verplichtingen bevrijdt en waarmee ze wel hun eigen pad kunnen vervolgen. Toch blijft het grote Columbia label in het duo geloven, maar na het in 2018 verschenen...
