Binnen de stortvloed aan Prince-releases die we dit jaar over ons uitgestort hebben gekregen (en nog gaan krijgen) is het deze week via streamingplatform Tidal beschikbaar komende Originals verreweg de meest interessante tot nu toe. Het is geen geheim dat Prince dusdanig productief was, dat hij naast zijn eigen werk ook honderden nummers voor anderen heeft geschreven. Originals is een bloemlezing van dergelijke nummers, uitgevoerd door de maestro zelf. In de loop der jaren zijn via allerlei bootleg-cd’s en ‘leaks’ al flink wat van dergelijke nummers gaan circuleren onder de fans.
