Als het uit Las Vegas afkomstige The Killers in 2004 met het door de postpunk beïnvloede Hot Fuss tot favoriet van de popcritici uitgroeit is er nog helemaal niks aan de hand. Ook het voortreffelijke zware soulvolle Sam’s Town wordt erg goed ontvangen. Maar sinds ze met het catchy Day & Age de serieuze rol van publieksliefhebber toegekend krijgen gaat het fout. De sound is te gelikt, en de band wordt als wegwerpplastic afgeserveerd. The Killers moeten hard werken om de status als geloofwaardige act te herwinnen.
