Als bij Damon Albarn de Blur vermoeidheid optreedt, en de frontman meer dan genoeg van die continue strijd heeft om bovenaan de hitlijsten te belanden, zoekt hij voldoening bij het opgezette hobbyproject Gorillaz, welke tot dezelfde gewaardeerde klasse als Blur uitgroeit. Na het nog genietbare Plastic Beach volgt al snel de razendsnelle achtbaan naar beneden die met The Fall wordt ingezet. The Now Now stagneert de neergaande spiraal, maar zet nog niet de weg naar boven in.
