Hoewel Don Letts al in de jaren zeventig samenwerkte met The Clash, omging met Bob Marley en midden jaren tachtig met Mick Jones’ Big Audio Dynamite even flink in beeld was, is Outta Sync pas zijn eerste release als solo-artiest. Letts is al die jaren toch vooral eerst filmmaker, medemuzikant, radiomaker, remixer, cultuurbewaarder, schrijver en muzieksamensteller geweest. Tijdens de lockdown was het echter Killing Joke bassist Youth die Letts aanmoedigde werk te maken van een eigen album. Pas toen Letts met de Engels-Italiaanse (dub) producer Gaudi in de studio zat kreeg het idee van een album vastere vormen: het duo werkte hier negen maanden lang, drie keer per week aan....
